Tax Partner, Lee & Ko

Tom advises Korean and foreign companies, investment funds and other investors on tax matters. He practices primarily
in international tax and M&A tax, including inbound and outbound acquisition structuring, financing, reorganization, cross-border transactions and offshore/onshore fund formation and structuring from tax perspective.

Tom’s practice also involves advising clients on tax controversies and disputes as well as matters involving investor’s protection.

Tom has over 18 years of international tax experience in Korea and in the U.S. Prior to joining Lee & Ko, Tom was a director in Deloitte’s M&A and International Tax Group. Tom has been involved in many of the major transactions (both buy and sell-side) in Korea for foreign and Korean investors, including private equity funds, since 2008.

Tom is a member of the International Bar Association, the International Fiscal Association Korea, and the American
Chamber of Commerce in Korea.

Jung-hong Kim is a senior foreign attorney and a member of our Tax and Customs Group, specializing in international tax and customs.

Prior to joining Lee & Ko in 2021, he has had long and illustrious public career with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Supreme Court of Korea and the OECD Korea Tax Center where he was responsible for international tax and customs matters.

At Lee & Ko, he advises on domestic tax law, tax treaties, transfer pricing, customs issues related to inbound and outbound transactions and tax defense cases.

Steve advises corporate, banking and investment fund clients on the tax planning and structuring of their cross-border investments. As a member of the firm’s International Tax and Private Equity practices, his guidance to domestic and foreign clients focuses tax aspects of various inbound and outbound transactions that often lead to the discussion of core international tax matters such as permanent establishment, withholding tax, treaty application, foreign tax credit, tax optimization strategies, and transfer pricing policies. Steve has more than 15 years of tax experience.

Prior to joining Lee & Ko in 2014, Steve practiced in Washington, DC for many years with the Washington National Tax office of Deloitte Tax LLP. He speaks frequently on tax-related subjects and has written numerous articles.

Steve advises Korean and foreign MNEs on International tax matters. His area of expertise lies in transfer pricing and other international tax matters including, inter alias, transfer pricing planning & policy setting, APA, MAP, TP documentation, PE risk assessment.

Steve’s practice also involves helping clients with tax audit defense and ensuing tax controversies and disputes.

Steve has over 11 years of international tax experience in Korea. Prior to joining Lee & Ko, Steve was senior associate in SHIN & KIM’s International Tax Group and manager in Deloitte’s Global Transfer Pricing Group. Steve has abundant experience across a wide range of industries such as manufacturing, distribution, finance (incl. investment banking), insurance, gaming, etc.
Steve is a member of the International Bar Association, the International Fiscal Association Korea, and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Korea.

Jade Son is the Business & Administration Manager at the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Korea. Fluent in English and Korean, Jade is passionate in promoting strong relationships between Australian and Korean communities. She has an extensive experience in research and external relations, having served with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for five years.

Jade holds a Bachelor’s degree from Ewha Womans University in Korea and a Master’s degree (with Honours) of Public Policy in Hong Kong. Having lived in both Korea and overseas, her background has given her a strong appreciation of the importance of serving the community. She is particularly keen to get involved in projects that will help enrich connections for the Chamber’s stakeholders.
